Date Night

Our last date night was sometime in December and we went to see the movie Sherlock Holmes (loved it, too). Since seeing the movie, Super has been reading as many Holmes stories as he can get his hands on.

Thanks to a gift certificate to Chaffin’s (one of our favorite places) and a play on the Backstage we wanted to see (can you believe the luck that it is a Holmes!), we dropped off our sweet Bug with Supper’s parents and headed to west Nashville.

Our conversation included the following (can you tell we are parents of a toddler with another one on the way and avid football fans?):
-Orange and White Game
-Quarterback Situation
-Dessert selection, see the picture of the yummy gluten free chocolate cake
-An Episode of “Dora the Explorer” that was exceptional good
-Names for our sweet addition

Great night!

10 Years Ago Today

10 Years ago today I was getting ready for the rehearsal dinner for my wedding.  1-0-Y-E-A-R-S!  Mt. Denson Cumberland Presbyterian Church was all a flurry with activity and preparation for a beautiful wedding.  My Grandfather was busy preparing the rehearsal dinner and putting together the finishing touches on the wedding cake and chocolate truffles.  The rehearsal dinner was just as much fun as the wedding!

I’ve been trying to wrap my head around this large milestone all week and it’s just hard for me to comprehend, 1-0-Y-E-A-R-S.  I’ve been married now almost 1/3 of my life and I can’t imagine my life without my Superhero.

Here’s a picture of us in our earlier years in 2005.

Thankful: Superhero

Today I’m thankful (and many days I am) for my Superhero husband.  My little Bug is sick, we are hoping it’s just a cold, but Super will be taking off tomorrow to take her to the doctor. Today’s thankful post is simple.

What are you thankful for today?

Sweetest Conversation

The Superhero and I send text messages back and forth each day to each other while we are at work. These are typically pretty quick and say things like, “Hope you are having a great day, I love you” or “Want me to get Bug or can you?” You know just mundane stuff, until today. I want to share with you why I watching the Superhero with Bug melts my heart. The daycare ladies have even commented to me on several ocassions how precious the Superhero is with Bug. I’ve often fallen in love with him all over again watching him and Bug together.

Let me set the stage for you: If you don’t know the Superhero, he’s a real man’s man and what you see is what you get. He doesn’t like to dress up, likes football, likes shooting stuff, likes simple things and loves me and Bug. He is away tonight at a “Man event” with his friends – some kinda of a mixed martial arts fight, very manly.

Here’s the text string:
Txt from Donita – headed 2 get bug. love u
Txt from Superhero – Love u havin a great time kiss my bug
Txt from Donita – i am so glad! i will kiss her 4u.
Txt from super – I stopped by to see her on the way here she was so sweet [this is the text that just absolutely made me melt]
Txt from Donita – u r such a good dad.
Txt from Super – I love my bug

9 Years Ago Today

Nine years ago today it was snowing like crazy, I was a nervous wreck, my step-dad was setting up camera equipment, my little papaw was cooking like crazy, my little daddy was pacing the floor and probably didn’t sleep the night before and I had no idea what marriage meant.

In case you didn’t know or couldn’t guess, today is mine and the Superhero’s 9th wedding anniversary.  According to about.com year 9’s traditional gift is Willow or Pottery or a more modern gift would be leather (hmm, I’ve been wanting a new leather sofa).  We will be celebrating in a few weeks by going to see the University of Tennessee Men play basketball, yeah I know a weird present.
I’m not sure I still know what marriage means, but I think we’ve done pretty good so far.

Superhero, here’s to many more wonderful years.  I love you.

Professional Student

I really could be a professional student and would be, if it paid money, but it doesn’t so I have a “real job.” But honestly, when they start paying you to go to school, I’m there.  With that being said, I’m going back to school.  Seriously, I am and I’m super excited and of course nervous.  I’m nervous because the class I’m taking is at my beloved Belmont and will be a lot of work, but mostly I’m nervous because for 10 weeks I will be gone one night a week (not all night, home after Bug’s bedtime).  The Superhero is a awesome Dad, very hands on and capable, but I’ve not been away from Bug at bedtime except for once. So here’s to fun night in class, to Superhero and Bug having a good night at home, and to a new chapter in my book of life!

Executive Decision

Last night while wrapping a Christmas presents I made a decision (after talking to my very wise father).  My decision was “regardless of what I have or don’t have completed for Christmas, I’m just going to enjoy the journey”.  I’m not going to get all my Christmas cards out this year and you know what, that’s okay.  I’ve been completely consumed with making sure that this Christmas is the best because it’s Amelia’s first Christmas.  You know what, she could care less about it, what matters most to her is that I’m happy and available to play in the floor, not exhausted because I’ve stayed up too late or preoccupied because I’ve not planned well for Christmas and trying to make up for it in the last few days before Christmas.  Same goes for my husband, he’ll be happier if I’m happier.  So in order to have a very Merry Christmas in the Brown household, I’m going to do what matters.  You may not get a card from me this year and your present from me may be in a recycled gift bag, but I’ll enjoy spending time with you and that’s what matters most.

Nice Sunday

Today has been a nice day.  We all got to go to church (no one was sick, thankfully!) and out to eat at our favorite Mexican restaurant.  Our Christmas tree is up in the living room, it’s not decorated….we haven’t located the ornaments, yet!  🙂  But the superhero will find them; hopefully they are upstairs among all of the stuff he’s been using to finish our 2nd story.  Bug and the super hero are napping on the couch.  What a nice afternoon.

House Divided…Welcome Lane Kiffin

Activities on Saturday during Football season (Saturday ball = College football) revolves around University of Tennessee Volunteer’s game time.  It’s quite a passion that the super hero and I share and game day is filled with the buzz of team chatter…well all except for this year.

We’ve been living in a house divided this year and football season just hasn’t been the same.  The super hero and I have disagreed about the, now past, head coach of the Vols, Phil Fulmer.  Super hero wanted him gone and I wanted him promoted to AD.  Well, the super hero won and I’m sad.
Now that this chapter is closed, I wish Lane Kiffin the best and a big Rocky Top welcome to UT.
