Genetics?

Typically when I pick up Ms. Bug I get a report that is something like this:

“Oh, Amelia has just played so well with all the kids today.”
“Amelia ate some grass on the playground today, we tried to keep her from it but she’s just so quick” -Yeah, we know she likes rocks for breakfast
“Amelia shared really well today”

You get the picture. Typically daycare stuff.

Yesterday, when I picked her up the report was this:

“Amelia has been my little mover today! She’s moved everything that wasn’t nailed down.”

This is pretty comical considering my Mom can’t leave anything in it’s rightful place for longer than a month, her hobby is re-arranging furniture. It’s a running joke in my family that she’s kill Helen Keller. Me, not so much, I’m pretty happy with the way things are and very rarely rearrange my furniture. I guess Amelia (aka – Ms. Bug) received the re-arranging gene!

So, What’s for Breakfast?

Most weekday morning, breakfast for Bug consists of her sippy cup of milk on the way to school, followed by something not very healthy for breakfast, like a small sausage biscuit (you know the ones that come in a two pack at the grocery story) or mini waffles or mandarin oranges or a nutri-grain bar. Yeah, I know it should be healthier, but she loves her morning selection (I know this because she told me, so there!). She really does get excited when she sees her sausage biscuit.

This morning, she ate a rock. Yes, a rock. She was crunching on something and I stopped her from toddling around the house and sat her down, pried her mouth open to find a small rock in her mouth. Seriously, we’ve got to get more fiber her in diet.

BYE, BYE! Go, BYE, BYE!

A few times recently, Ms. Bug’s personality has really started to shine, most times in a really great way and a few times in a very surprising way. This morning was one of those surprising ways.

I had just finished giving her her breathing treatment (which makes her a little aggitated) and then she was walking around our bathroom while me and the Superhero were getting ready for work. Bug goes for the cabinets (which are child proofed, but that little kid’s arms are skinny and she’s figured out how to get stuff out of them) and I tell her “no” and I block her from getting to them at which time she looks up at me and says in a very non-sweet Bug voice, “BYE, BYE, Go, BYE, BYE“.

I kinda thought it was funny and thinking to myself, “oh, she’s not having any fun and is ready to go to school.” Then I get to work and was re-telling this story to which a friend of mine told me that she wasn’t wanting to go, she was wanting YOU to go! 😦

Meet Amelia’s New Sippy Cup

I’d like to introduce you to Amelia’s new sippy cup and please don’t look at it, touch it or dare to take it away.

This new sippy cup is a pink Nalgene kid’s water bottle purchased by her favorite hiking buddy (her grandfather) at our favorite store (REI), after our hike at Radnor Lake on Saturday.

She LOVED the bottle so much that when I took it away from her (to wash it), she cried real tears and threw a big ole hissy fit.

Some kids have a blankie, I guess my kid will have a water bottle!

Failure

I’m not a huge Michael Jordan fan, not because I don’t like him, I completely respect his abilities to play Basketball and give him even more respect for how he’s branded himself. I ran across this today, thanks to a gal I follow on Twitter.

This clip reminds me of some advice that I was given by a great boss. The advice goes like this, “you want to fail a lot in life, because it’s those failures that you learn from”.

Where in the World is Waldo?

Who cares about Waldo, guess where I am….KNOXVILLE (one of my favorite places, probably favorite city away from home)! Tomorrow the Superhero and I will be going to see Bruce Pearl coach the UT Men’s Basketball team in a win over Vandy. Going to see this game was our 9th Anniversary present to each other and we decided to leave today, stay over night, sans Bug. So Bug is very happy with the in-laws and of course the in-laws are super happy that she is staying at their house and even have a big day planned with her tomorrow. Leaving her was hard, but knowing that she was in such good hands was comforting. And of course, since she didn’t cry when I left made it easier to leave.

So here’s a list of what we forgot:

  • Spare car seat for the in-laws – we have two car seats, one in my vehicle and one in the Superhero’s. The one in Superhero’s truck we have an extra base that the in-laws use, we forgot the seat that fits into that base….
  • Milk – yep, we forgot Bug’s milk, crazy huh? Thankfully, we only got to the top of the driveway before I let out a large gasp, then a “oh crap”, followed by “please turn around” then the problem was corrected
  • Bottle – actually got to the in-laws and realized we had the milk, but no bottle for it. Nice huh? I get the mother of the year away for this one.

All forgotten items have now been corrected. We got on the road at 6pm, a little later than our 4:30pm planned departure time.

I’m looking forward to not getting up at 4-5am to feed Amelia, but I’m also not looking forward to not getting to see her smiling face tomorrow morning.

Hubs and I are pretty boring, here some random snippets of our conversation since dropping off Bug:

  • “You could be a jockey” said to me, by the Superhero
  • “Wonder who invented the QWERTY keyboard”
  • “There’s nothing on television”
